Prior to 1964 the United States of America operated on a segregated system. Separate but oppose but nevertheless it was not equal. Minorities and women were not given the same opportunities as albumen males. Congress passed the Civil Rights Act of 1964 which prohibits racial and gender unlikeness in profession, schools, and other settings. Although, after desegregation companies were becoming more accepting of minorities and women working, however it was not happening at a rapid pace. Affirmative action was brought up on numerous occasions during the late 1950s and 1960s. As a consequent in 1969, optimistic action programs were applied to rectify employment related issues. According to Wilcher (2011), affirmative action refer to a process that requires a government contractor to examine and guess the total scope of its personnel practices for the purpose of identifying and correcting any barriers to equal employment opportunity.
Affirmative action programs have received reverse since its implementation. The primary issue is that Caucasian males feel that they are cosmos discriminated against because the prospective company or university is seeking applicants based upon draw or gender.
In the past, companies only recruited Caucasian males therefore when the affirmative action plans were implemented previous policies changed. Companies changed to recruit minorities and women. The applicants had to qualify for the present and if standards were met employment was offered.
