The lives to which we want to lead and the lives we live are unremarkably not the same. In the movie, The Hours, by Michael Cunningham, the characters of the film express their feelings towards the roles wad must play in society. The feelings that are being denotative are feelings that are mless; ambivalence and regret harry the women in the novel, stock-still though they do not of necessity lead lives that are made to be miserable, they are unsounded unhappy with their lives.

Clarissa Vaughn lives the perfect domestic life.
She lives with her lover, Sally, and has lived with her for about eighteen years; it is well-nigh like she lives the life of a safe wife even though she is not married. Her house is nice, she knows how to cook various things, she throws parties, and she finds contentment in the simplest of things; she is, as her ex-lover Richard calls her, Mrs. Dalloway. In the movie, both Virginia Woolf and Clarissa Vaughn look in the mirror, Virginia first and then Clarissa, right before Clarissa repeats the first prison term in Virginias novel.
